OHIRA SHIRO SUITA #241

An odd shaped stone from the Ohira mine. This shiro white suita is very easy and fun to use
because although hard it is in only the level 9+ realm. With just clear water or with a slurry it will
bring up black iron filings, swarf with just a few strokes. The odd shape does provide enough
surface area for a 70mm kanna blade, or it could be used for chisels but I feel it is too large and
with only short straight sides to be used with razors.

The renge pattern does actually look like lotus as the name implies, distinct small leaves of
intense purple. All of the inclusions you can see are tight with no gaps whatsoever. The areas of
yaki at the ends are light colored and also do not present any issues for the blade. This is a
dense stone that weights 3 1/4 pounds, and thick. It will sit flat on a table but would benefit by
having a stone holder.  The measurements below are of the longest, widest and thickest
dimension.
