This smaller thinner stone has been lapped on both from and back and it will act as a
natural occurring combination hone stone. The front is a perfectly fine Okudo finishing
stone with all of the fast and fine qualities that you would expect.
The fully lapped back has a surface that is made up of a slightly coarser grit particles that
feel to the hand, react to the steel and when viewed under a microscope leave a slightly
deeper type of scratch pattern. Not a bevel setting stone per se, but an intermediate in a
progression quality of grit that cuts steel just as you would hope it would.
I do not know how thick the alternate sides layer is, and it seems to be mostly on that one
edge that is to the left in the photo of the back.
