Shobudani karasu tomae #554

I was told when I bought this stone that it from Saga which is the Shoubdani area. It is not
the hardest stone, a level 4+ stone, karasu are traditionally from the Aisa layer which is
fairly deep, The slurry from it is brownish and the stone has excellent cutting powers with
clear water or with slurry. Being 26mm thick allows the stone to sit proud upon the palm
so all of the stones surface is accessible to the blade, to me this is a good hone for 4/8
and 5/8 width razors.

The kawa skin on this stone is really interesting, deep ruts and flashes of orange ocher
colors, burnt umbers and dark chunky blacks.

I honed up a vintage The Mab razor and came away with a very good shave, not great but
still comfortable and fairly close.

The toishi has been lapped perfectly flat, the sides dressed and the corners and edges
beveled unless otherwise noted.  All of my stones come with a money back guarantee
minus the shipping.
