Narukaki mokume pattern tomae koppa #162

This soft tomae from the Narutaki mine shallow akapin layer is perfect
for knives or chisels, very fast cutting it will create black swarf in clear
water with just a few strokes of high carbon or stainless steel, and will
leave an aesthetically pleasing hazy finish. The pastel colors of this stone
with the tree ring pattern blend yellows and faint rouge. The kawa skin
on the sides is similar to Nakayama but the sparkly black minerals are
just a bit flat in profile and that cadmium component appears often on
Narutaki stones.

For knives this level 4 hardness stone will self slurry and provide
fresh and sharp grit particles with each stroke. There is a lot of top
surface but any honing should center in the middle to prevent contact
with the kawa skin that wraps around the stone. The back is hand
finished and the shape and kawa on 5 sides suggests that this stone
was plucked from a corner nook at the end of a tomae shelf.

The stone (toishi) has been lapped perfectly flat and the corners
and edges beveled unless otherwise noted.  All of my stones come
with a money back guarantee minus the return shipping.
This stone will be shipped with a tested tomonagura slurry stone.
