#1118 Narutaki kiita large koppa
From the Air Raid Shelter hoard, this is another big time kiita with
a chip on its shoulder and it wants to prove a point. This stone
is fast and super smooth and is it lapped to perfection on both,
each side has a nearly identical composition one does have a light rose
tint and some nashiji pear sking mottling. I have tested both sides of this
stone, I use vintage Henckels for testing, and I found that both sides
are true razor grade. A large 207mm long grit rich stone it will hone with
just clear water and not self slurry but it will develop black steel swarf using
normal pressure, and with a tomo or diamond nagura the kiita
just kicks into hyper cutting gear, developing black swarf right away.
The Narutaki mine was within a 1/2 mile of the Nakayama and they
share some characteristics and this example is one of those. A very
clear complexion and a kawa skin that shows tones of ocher, umber
and burnt umber plus a sparking black element that sparkles in the sun.
One side and 2 ends are hand sawn and fine saw marks are seen. One side
has a good area of kawa while another edge shows finer crystallized silica.
There are a few very solid, tight and not toxic inclusions that do not
affect the integrity of the stone in any way.
The stone (toishi) has been lapped flat and the
corners and edges beveled unless otherwise noted. All of my
stones come with a tested and appropriately sized tomonaguara
slurry stone, and a money back guarantee minus the return shipping.
